A secret boom! Do you know Kopeppan (a roll)?

Hi, this is a Payke writer, LINA!
Speaking of Japan, I think some people might have the images of rice and rice ball. However, bread has evolved in unique ways and it is attractive♪
This time, I will introduce the bread called Koppepan which became popular in Japan recently!

what is Koppepan?

Koppepan is soft and simple bread and has an elliptical shape like a hot dog. When school system started in the postwar period in Japan, Koppepan was popularized as a staple food rather than rice because it takes time to cook. Currently, the fewer opportunities to have Koppepan for our lunch meal but it is loved by every Japanese because it is made us feel nostalgic.
It is fluffy and very soft, and you can eat it as it is or you can eat with some ingredients.
So, I will introduce 3 types of popular and classic Japanese Koppepan!

All recommended! Popular Koppepans

① Anko Butter

It has Anko and buttecream in it. Combination of Anko’s sweetness and butter is good. Most Japanese think Anko butter is regular ingredients for Koppepan. Eating with milk is more delicious.

② Yakisoba

Yakisoba is a meal used Chinese noodle and Worcester sauce cooked with vegetables and meat. Since it is easy to cook, it becomes regular menu for festivals in Japan. This is Koppepan with Yakisoba in it. The red one in the picture is red ginger pickled with plum vinegar and is often used as an accent of taste. It may be strange to eat noodles with bread, but fluffy bread and noodles go well with each other!

③ Mentaiko (pollock roe) Potato Salad

This is Koppepan with potato salad. The black thing is chopped seaweed. Mentaiko potato salad is delicious to eat as it is, but more delicious with Koppepn. This is my favorite one!

Yamazaki Baking’s Koppepan

Koppepan can also be bought at supermarkets and convenience stores besides bakeries. Among them, the most familiar to Japanese people is Koppean from Yamazaki Baking.

This is also a standard taste, jam & margarine. It is loved for many years because it is easy to eat anywhere, anytime. The price is 113yen (tax-included).
