The Classic Gifts from Yamanashi Prefecture: 5 Selections from the “Kikyou Shingen Mochi” Series

Hello everyone! This is Payke writer yui.
Do you know what Kikyou Shingen Mochi is?
Kikyou Shingen Mochi is a classic gift you can get at Yamanashi Prefecture.
Recently, many kinds of Shingen Mochi products are being sold.
This time, I will introduce you to the Shingen Mochi series!

Kikyou Shingen Mochi

First, I will introduce you to the standard Shingen Mochi (rice cakes)!

2 packs included: 330 yen (tax included)
When you open the package, you will see 2 Shingen Mochi inside.

There is a small bottle of brown sugar syrup (kuromitsu) on top that you can pour and enjoy.
It is delicious when you mix the brown sugar syrup and roasted soybean flour (kinako) together.
Since there are a lot of roasted soybean flour inside, please be careful not to spill them everywhere.
The brown sugar syrup is rich and not too sweet.
The mochi is very soft and delicious as well.

Kikyou Shingen Mochi Ice Cream Bars

Next, I will introduce the Kikyou Shingen Mochi Ice Cream Bars.

Kikyou Shingen Mochi Ice Cream Bars: 6 included
You can purchase these Kikyou Shingen ice cream bars at convenience stores and supermarkets.

The outer layer is roasted soybean flavored ice cream, the inside is mochi, and there is brown sugar syrup in the center.
It is sweet and very easy to eat.
Since the mochi is not very sticky, you should be able to chew it without worrying about getting it stuck in your throat.

Kikyou Shingen Mochi Milky Baumkuchen

Next, I will introduce the collaborative product with Fujiya, who is famous for their character “Peco-chan,” Kikyou Shingen Mochi Milky Baumkuchen!

Kikyou Shingen Mochi Milky Baumkuchen: 259 yen (tax included)
Usually, peco-chan wears overalls, but in this packaging, she is wearing a kimono.
There are 2 layers: one made from the Shingen Mochi’s roasted soybean flour and the other made from milk.

Although the pastry is sweet, you can really taste the brown sugar syrup and roasted soybean flour.
The sugar coating on the outer rim has a crispy texture and adds a nice accent to the pastry.

Kikyou Shingen Mochi Dorayaki

Next, I will introduce the collaborative product from Kikyou Shingen Mochi and Dorayaki, the Kikyou Shingen Mochi Dorayaki!

Kikyou Shingen Mochi Dorayaki: 194 yen (tax included)

At first glance, it looks like a normal dorayaki (red bean pancake).
But when you split it in half, you can see that there is mochi inside.
Since the mochi is not too sticky, it goes well with the soft texture of the dorayaki.
Thanks to the mochi, the red bean paste becomes less sweet and easier to eat.
My favorite from this time’s Kikyou Shingen series is this one.

Kikyou Shingen Candies

Lastly, I will introduce the Kikyou Shingen Candies!

Kikyou Shingen Candies 10 included: 200 yen (tax included)

They have a roasted soybean flour flavor and is quite sweet.
They are not a hard candy but a soft candy.
They are not sticky, but the powder makes me thirsty.
I did not like this one as much because the flavor of the roasted soybean flour was too strong for me and I did not enjoy the texture as much.
And those were the introductions to the Kikyou Shingen Mochi Series.
This time, I purchased the Kikyou Shingen Mochi Ice Cream Bars at the Kikyouya Kuromitsu-an.
The Kikyou Shingen Ice Cream Bars can be purchased at convenience stores and supermarkets all over Japan.
The Shingen Mochi can be bought at the service areas and gift shops in Yamanashi Prefecture.
Also, Shingen Mochi is a gift sold in Yamanashi Prefecture, but it can also be purchased at the Kikyouya stores and department stores in Tokyo as well.
