Enjoy the Flavors of Japan with Mochi! Which one do you want to try?

Hello, this is Payke writer LINA!
Do you like Japanese mochi (Japanese rice cake)? I think that many people like mochi because they can be seen inside sweets and even ice creams recently. In Japan, there’s a tradition to eat mochi in the beginning of the year and so there are many kinds of mochi lined up in supermarkets! This time, I want to introduce you to some slightly different types of mochi- ones with other ingredients mixed inside!

Using sticky rice that’s made in Japan【4 Kinds of Mochi】& Usagimochi 【Nama-Kakimochi Mix】

In these bags, there are flavored mochi inside.
Now, I’ll heat up these mochi and introduce them to you!
First up is the yomogi mochi.

Yomogi mochi is Japanese mugwort leaves, called yomogi, kneaded into mochi.  Yomogi has a unique, fresh scent, and its refreshing flavor is delicious♪
Next is the awa mochi.

Awa (foxtail millet) is a type of grain, and it seemed to be a staple food for the Japanese back in the days. Actually, this was my first time trying awa mochi! The more you chew, the more you can taste its delicate sweetness and savory flavors. If you eat it with soy sauce, it adds a nice accent to the flavor and it’s very delicious!
Next is the kuromai mochi and genmai mochi.

Kuromai (black rice) is a type of rice, and has been gathering attention as a health food because of its richness in vitamins and minerals!

Genmai (brown rice) refers to white rice that has not been polished and its outer hull removed. Recently, similar to the kuromai, it’s been popular as a health food because of its abundance in vitamins and minerals!
Next, let’s try the shrimp mochi.

This was my first time trying shrimp mochi because it’s very rare! As you chew, you can taste the sweet flavors of the shrimp, and because there’s a moderate amount of saltiness to it, it’s delicious just on its own. I liked the shrimp mochi the most♪
Lastly, I’ll be introducing the goma mochi.

There’s kurogoma (black sesame) inside the mochi. The more you chew, the more you can taste the sesame flavors with this one too. The grainy texture of the sesame is also fun!
What do you think? Sweets and snacks that have mochi in them are nice, but the flavors of real mochi are rich and very delicious, so I hope you take this chance to try some out. However, because mochi is very soft and sticky, they could get stuck in your throat, so please be sure to always chew well and eat them with a drink!
