Popular with Women! Ume-Flavored Snacks ~Candy & Tablet Edition~

Hello! This is a writer from Payke.
Have you guys ever tried ume (Japanese plum)-flavored snacks before?
You can see many of them lined up in supermarkets and convenience stores.
Ranging from very sour ones to sweet ones, you can find a wide variety of products.
Starting with this article, I’d like to introduce the snacks in 3 separate parts: a Candy & Tablet Edition, a Kneaded-Ume Edition, and a Seedless Edition!
I’ll be rating the sourness of each product by the number of ☆s.
You can use them as a reference when buying.
So, let’s get into them! This time is the Candy & Tablet Edition!

Otoko-Ume Candy

First, I’ll try the Otoko-Ume Candy!

I can really taste the original flavors of ume!
It’s moderately sour, but because of its strong saltiness, it was difficult for me to eat several pieces at once…
However, because of that, this may be useful for when you need a sodium boost on those hot summer days.
There were also comments saying that some ate the candy to prevent car sickness.
The sourness is ☆☆☆!

These are the ingredients for the Otoko-Ume Candy.
From ume-juice concentrate to shredded ume and ume vinegar, the ume are abundantly used!
I bought a bag of the Otoko-Ume Candy for 108 yen (tax included).

Otoko-Ume Tsubu

Next, I’ll try the Otoko-Ume Tsubu!

I can feel more of the sourness in this one than the Otoko-Ume Candy!
There’s less saltiness, and there’s a stronger taste of shiso (perilla leaf).
The surface of the candy is rough, like a seed of an umeboshi (pickled/dried Japanese plums), so it feels as if your licking the seeds of umeboshi.
The sourness is ☆☆☆.

These are the ingredients for the Otoko-Ume Tsubu.
With shiso vinegar and shiso powder included, there’s plenty of shiso used as well!
I bought 1 case of the Otoko-Ume Tsubu for 203 yen (tax included).

Koume-chan Candy

Lastly, I’ll try the Koume-chan Candy!

This one was easier to eat because it tasted less salty than the Otoko-Ume Candy.
Plus, since there’s a stronger sweetness to it, those who are not very good with sour foods may even find this easy to eat.
Because there’s ume paste inside, you can enjoy the changing textures of the candy.
The paste is a little sour.
The sourness is ☆.
On the backside of the individual wrappers, there are cute little senryūs written on them.
A senryū is a type of Japanese poetry that is made up of 5・7・5 Japanese sounds.
On the wrapper shown in the photo was a poem, written: “Your favorite・Cute skirt・To wear” (「君好み かわいいスカート はいていく」).
Also, there are two larger candies inside one bag.

I tried comparing the larger candy (left) and the regular sized candy (right).
The larger candy is quite big.

These are the ingredients for the Koume-chan.
Koume-chan’s ume juice concentrate is made from 100% Nankou-Ume grown in Wakayama Prefecture!
Nankou-Ume is a high-quality product, and is even certified as the regional brand of Wakayama Prefecture!
I bought 1 bag of the Koume-chan Candy for 128 yen (tax included).

Did you find any ume candy & tablets that you’d like to try?
They’re sold in supermarkets and convenience stores, so please try some if you see them!
