Do you know of [Tomoriko] the friend of Jagariko?

Jagariko is a popular snack that is widely available in supermarkets and convenience stores. Starting from 16th April 2018, [Tomoriko] the friend of Jagariko was on sale in the Kanto region. (On sale in Hokkaido・Tohoku・Shin’etsu from 28th May, Chubu region from 23rd April, Kinki Region 14th May, Chugoku・Shikoku・Kyushu region from 18th June) The snacks are featured prominently in commercials, so I bought some to try. Today, I will be comparing the taste between Jagariko and Tomoriko

First, let us start off with Jagariko!

[Price] 149 yen(Tax Incl.)
This is the standard salad flavor Jagariko.

The green and orange bits on the surface are parsley and carrots. It also has a light and refreshing seasoning. Texture wise, it is first crispy and then crunchy when you bite into it. Lastly, the right amount of saltiness helps to elevate its flavor even further.

Next is the standard butter potato flavor.

This particular flavor has butter and salt as ingredients, helping it to reproduce the delicious taste of butter potatoes which is a dish of a steamed potato topped with butter. The adequate saltiness also elevates the richness of the butter, matching well with the taste of potatoes. This is a product which you can enjoy the gentle sweetness of butter.

Next we have the standard cheese flavor.

It is a little difficult to see but there are yellow bits on the surface which are made of Cheddar and Camembert cheese. There is a lot of cheese added, so you can enjoy the rich and mellow taste of cheese to your fullest. I felt it was a little on the salty side though.

How does Tomoriko taste?

[Price] 152 yen (Tax Incl.)
Unlike the Jagariko, the Tomoriko is packaged in a resealable packaging. Opening the packaging, you are instantly hit with the sweet aroma of corn.

Length wise the Tomoriko is shorter than the Jagariko; it is bite-sized. Also, the Tomoriko has a slightly softer crunch compared to the Jagariko. In addition, the Tomoriko uses whole sweet corns, so you can savor the natural sweetness of the corns used; the sweetness is the very charm point of corn. Again, the right amount of saltiness helps to elevate the sweetness of the Tomoriko.

This ends my introduction of Tomoriko.
Jagariko has many other limited edition flavors on top of the standard ones, so if you manage to find any rare ones, you definitely need to try them out. Also, if you happen to come across Tomoriko, do try it too.
