【Kamakura Souvenir】A squishy ball of fun! Konjac Soap

Hello everyone, have you ever been to Kamakura? During the 12th -13th century, Kamakura flourished as a capital under the Kamakura shogunate. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction famous for its large number of temples and shrines, and abundance of nature. Today, I would like to introduce a product that I bought while I went to visit Kamakura, the unusual yet amazing Konjac soap that is the brainchild of Kamakura.

Kamakura Konjac Soap

Price: 1550 Yen (Tax incl.)
Konjac has been well loved, as a delicacy of the mountains, in Kamakura since the era of the samurais. Also, when consumed, Konjac has beauty-enhancing properties. For example, it is said that the ceramide contained in Konjac, works as a prevention against dry skin. The jelly-like and squishy Konjac Soap, famous in Kamakura, is the result from making soap from 100% plant-based ingredients including the Konjac.

It is my first time using such a unique soap!

The method of usage is really simple.
①Cup the Konjac Soap with both hands and let the water collect in your hands.

②Wrap your hands around the soap and rub it.

③Once the soap in your hands lathers up nicely, wash you face.
I was actually taught the washing method while at the store.
You definitely have to try it for yourself! Anyways, the squishy feeling of the soap is the best. After washing up, the damp skin turns really soft and upon touch, it adheres slightly to your fingers. I particularly recommend to use it for your morning face wash, as it freshens up your pores. Do note that the soap dissolves when immersed in water, so store it a place not excessively dry such as the in toilet. The Konjac Soap did not seem to shrink much after one use, so it would seem that it can last for around one month.

There are several kinds of soap, each for different skin problems. This time I used the “Gold” Konjac soap, which contains plenty of gold leave and natural pearls. The soap was hinoki scented, making it really relaxing to use. Take note that there are other fragrances such as cherry blossom, rice, charcoal, and iris.

The Konjac Soap is sold at the store in a cute packaging as shown above, making it perfect to buy as souvenirs or gifts. I also bought some for my mother and grandmother as souvenirs. They were surprised by the unique sensation of the soap and were absolutely thrilled by my souvenir.

In any case, have a feel of the soap!

If I have to indicate a special characteristic of the soap it has to be the unique squishy sensation of the soap. Just touching the soap once, will get you hooked and leave you wanting it. In addition to soap, there is also body soap and mascara, which is popular among customers, in the Konjac product line up. Although I bought mine at the main store in Kamakura, the Konjac Soap store can also be found it other tourist attractions throughout the country. So if you see one, go in and have a try for yourself.
