Excellent gourmet food from Japan! Let us try some fruit sandwiches!

It can be said that fruit sandwiches are gourmet food created in Japan. They consist of fresh cut fruits and whipped cream sandwiched between 2 sliced pieces of bread. The soft and sweet bread coupled together with the seasonal fruits and whipped cream used, has a texture and delicious taste similar to cake. I really like fruit sandwiches and I often buy them, especially when I want to pamper myself and feel a little more luxurious♪

[Meruhenk]’s fruit sandwich

Fruit sandwiches can be bought at the convenience store and supermarket. However, the selection at such places are limited and you would not be able to properly enjoy the deliciousness of fruit sandwiches. Therefore, I would like to recommend [Meruhenk], a sandwich specialty store, to all our foreign friends.

Meruhenk sells many different fruit sandwiches throughout the year based on the fruits in season. Therefore, the fruits are always very fresh and it is well complemented by the mildly sweet whipped cream.

Price:388 yen(Tax Incl.)
This is the undisputed no. 1 popular sandwich that Meruhenk has to offer, the [Fruit special]. By the way, when you buy sandwiches from Meruhenk, you will be provided with cool packs and a hand wipe; Meruhenk is really considerate of the customers. The cut piece of strawberry, mango and kiwi are sandwiched together between the bread and whipped cream and makes for a pretty looking sandwich! The sweet and juicy fruits, soft and fluffy bread and the generous helping of whipped cream has good synergy, resulting in a delicious sandwich.
This time round I visited the shop in June and sandwiches made with melon and mango, which were in season, were also available as well.

The one below is the mango sandwich, which has its fair share of fans and is quite the popular item too.

Price:367 yen(Tax Incl.)
Large slices of mango are used, giving the sandwich a luxurious feel.

Splitting the sandwich into halves, you can see that the shop did not scrimp on the mango; the large slice of mango is sandwiched all the way inside. This is my first time trying the mango sandwich and I was pleasantly surprised at the sweetness and softness of the mango slice. The sandwich is also quite filling, so I was satisfied even after only having one; the sandwich is really value for money considering its price and I recommend everyone to buy one to try.

Last of the introductions today is the melon sandwich,

Price:433 yen(Tax Incl.)
The sandwich uses a brand of melon from Kumamoto prefecture called Higo melon and as evidence of that, a seal of Kumamoto’s mascot Kumamon can be seen on the packaging. Taste-wise the melon is firm and the mild sweetness of the whipped cream causes the natural sweetness of the melon to stand out, making the sandwich delectable.

How do you like the sandwiches introduced today?
The sandwiches introduced today were all from the sandwich specialty shop [Meruhenk] which is hugely popular among the Japanese. I bought the sandwiches at the shop inside Tokyo station but starting from the city area all the way to even Kyoto and Osaka many of [Meruhenk]’s shops can be found. So please if you manage to find one, buy one of their sandwiches to try!
