Japan’s delicious pastries that are available at the supermarket!

There are many delicious pastries that are unique to or have evolved, independently, in Japan. Today, I would like to introduce some of the standards that can be bought at the supermarket.

Red bean bun

The most popular pastry in Japan, without a doubt, would have to be the Red bean bun。A bun with red bean filling, it has a sweet and gentle flavor making it suitable for all ages; it is loved by many, regardless of age。Together with milk, the red bean bun is perfect for breakfast or just as a snack.

This particular red bean bun, has both whip cream and red bean paste as a filling. Although, red bean buns that have whip cream, have become popular only recently, I would like to recommend this version for you to try; it is really delicious and almost feels like eating confectionery.

Cream Bun

Both the cream bun and the red bean bun are popular classics among the many pastries in the Japan. The cream bun is made from wrapping custard cream in bread dough and baking in the oven.

The cream bun is really soft and has a lovely sweet taste, making it really popular among children and females. Of course, it is popular among adults and males as well. As a child, I used to eat mini cream buns as a snack.

Curry Bun

Filling the bread dough with curry and deep frying it, you get the delicious curry bun. The curry bun is quite the heavy bun, so there are many who eat it for lunch.

When buying from the supermarket, I highly recommend you to warm it up. If you do so the outside will be will crunchy and the curry inside will become hot, making it even more delectable. For those who love Japanese curry, this is a must try.

Melon bread

Melon bread is made from baking soft pastry dough, with a crunchy sweetened cookie dough crust. There is, actually, no melon added to the bread. Although, it has been said that the pastry was named so, because the pattern on the cookie dough crust makes the bread look like a melon.

Melon bread is deliciously sweet due to the sugar sprinkled into the cookie dough crust. Also, it is relatively big for a piece of pastry, able to satisfy your snacking urge. I am a sweet tooth, so personally, the Melon bread is my favorite pastry in Japan; I am in total bliss whenever I am eating the Melon bread.

Chocolate cone roll

As seen in the picture above, the Chocolate cone roll is a uniquely shaped cone roll bread that has chocolate cream filling in the center. You should try to eat the cone roll bit by bit, with each piece having a little of the chocolate cream. I am really happy when I manage to find one that has chocolate cream filling all the way to the end, however, more often than not that is not the case making it a little of a hassle to find that perfect balance of eating each bite with a bit of chocolate cream.

I really recommend all chocolate lovers out there, to try this awesome pastry.
This is the end of my introduction of the top 5 most popular pastries in Japan, I hope you have enjoyed it and are ready to sink your teeth into them. The pastries that I introduced today are really scrumptious, so I am sure that it will be well liked, even by those who are living overseas. Whenever you are hungry, just pop by the supermarket in Japan and try some of these delectable pastries.
