I want to eat healthy snacks! Introducing Lawson’s private products

Hello, I’m a writer for Payke.

This time I will be introducing some snacks you can buy from the Lawson convenience stores in Japan!

What are “private products”?

You hear the term “private brand” quite often these days. A private product is one that has been created through a collaboration between a manufacturer and a convenience store chain. Many convenience stores have been producing their own private brands recently.
There are so many snacks that can only be purchased at certain convenience stores on the market, so we have rounded up our recommendations from the products available at Lawson to introduce to you here!

That famous boy comes to Lawson! Bisco Blueberry Cream Sandwich

This product is a collaboration between Lawson and Glico, a brand famous for its Glico Man sign at Dotonbori.
This blueberry flavor has never been used in Bisco cookies up until now, and the crackers contain wheat germ. Rich in vitamins and minerals, wheat germ has been gaining popularity as a health food, so we recommend this product for the health conscious!
Each box contains three packs of five cookies.

Highly aromatic! Bran Gluten Snack: Aonori Seaweed and Soy Sauce Flavor

Made with bran gluten, this snack stands out for its crispy texture. It has been made in collaboration with Nagatanein, a long running company that specializes in ochazuke soups and furikake rice flavorings. The pieces are small, but contain a rich dashi flavor.
Made with bran gluten, they’re low in sugar and calories. These are definitely healthy, but will fill you up!

One bite full of sweetness! Kyohiki Kinako Walnuts

These walnuts are coated in syrup and then covered with plenty of sweet kinako powder. This snack has the naturally sweet taste of kinako powder, which is followed by the crispy texture of walnut.
A similar product is also available at Seven Eleven, but Lawson’s Kyohiki Kinako Walnuts are thought to have a thicker coating of syrup.
These come in a sealable packet, so we recommend them as a snack that’s easy to carry with you for when you’re hungry!

A snack made more filling! Hard Baked Bran Ototo

Ototo crackers have been popular in Japan for many years. Shaped like various types of sea creatures, this is a snack that every Japanese person has eaten before. Hard Baked Bran Ototo was developed between Morinaga Confectionery and Lawson. These snacks are not fried and have a firm, crispy texture. The wheat bran used contains lots of fiber so they’re good for your digestion! The flavor of wheat comes through more clearly in these compared to regular Ototo crackers, and I found myself eating one after another.

This was my introduction of some of the limited edition snacks you can buy at your local convenience store. There are many health orientated snacks for sale under Lawson’s private brand, “Natural Lawson”. If you’re the type who is conscious of your health but also want to eat some tasty snacks, try stopping by your local Lawson and giving them a try.
