Today, I would like to introduce a popular snack in japan.
Potato chips come to mind when we think about snacks made from potatoes, however, in Japan there are many unique snacks that are made from potatoes. This time I would like to introduce my favorite snack among them, Jagabee from Calbee.

Calbee【Jagabee】

The name of the snack, Jagabee, comes from the combination of the Japanese word for potato, Jagaimo, and the name of the manufacturing company Calbee; highlighting Calbee’s hope that Jagabee would become a snack that is beloved by the world. Jagabee is a simple potato stick snack, made by deep frying and seasoning delicious potatoes that have their skin on and cut into sticks.

Upon observation, Jagabee might be mistaken for fries, but because it is deep fried to a crisp it has an entirely different texture; the crunchiness of the snack will leave you craving for more.

Jagabee has a firm and slightly hard texture. When you bite into it, you will enjoy that crunchiness and it will feel as though you are eating a delicious, freshly baked potato. I still remember how I was moved by the deliciousness of Jagabee when I first tried it. This time I bought the butter flavor and butter soy sauce flavor and I was able to enjoy the rich and full-bodied butter taste of the snack. The butter flavor Jagabee was especially amazing, it had a hidden tinch of cheese, honey and parsley giving it that extra umami; for a moment I thought I was eating seasoned fries. Also, Jagabee has many other flavors such as the herb flavor and the plum flavor. So please try them out too.

You can find Jagabee being sold, at supermarkets, in cup containers weighing in at 16 grams as shown above. I recommend the value packs of 5 for foreign visitors.

I buy my Jagabee snacks from the Donki Quote store. However, due to the popularity of the snack, even if you do not come to Japan, it seems like you can buy it from online shops. So if you have not tried Jagabee yet, I really recommend you to have a taste. I am sure you will be charmed by the deliciousness of Jagabee.
